Buthcer shop at Vilafranca

Project

Strada Interiors – Laura Strada

“A warm space that brings back the idea of traditional and artisanal craftsmanship from the old butcher shops, where quality, transparency in processes, and visibility in production are essential requirements.”

This is the guiding thread that drives this new project by Strada Interiors: the 6th butcher shop of the Masó family, located in the historic centre of Vilafranca del Penedés, Barcelona.

The new establishment has been designed as a versatile space, where clients can not only shop, but also see how some products are prepared. The shop is in an old square in the old town, surrounded by prominent porches.

To soften this aesthetic and enhance its charismatic essence, the interior opted to integrate the texture of raffia and wood on the ceilings and furniture, under a black coloured floor that gives the main role to the product and at the same time makes it stand out.

To give visibility to the establishment and achieve the desired connection between the street and the interior, the windows of the side street continue using elements as green “alicantina” shutters that repeat as a signature feature of the shop, aiming to capture the attention of passersby.

Inside the shop, the meat counters are irregularly placed along the perimeter and are covered with traditional materials such as hydraulic tiles and wood, leaving aisles for circulation.

The wooden latticework-covered display cases contrast the black floor with the red of the meat and provide warmth.

Lighting fixtures highlight the products and the intense textures of the walls. Above the displays, a sequence of industrial-style pendant lamps adds rhythm to the space, bringing the same mint green colour as the facade shutters.
As a nod to the past, antique raffia elements are hung on the walls, following the concept of the artisanal and additive-free production of the Masó brand.
